Lomo beginner, totally satisfied

I am no photographer by any means. And I haven't picked up film cameras since disposable cameras before good ol' point-and-shoot. But I was so intrigued by serendipitous lomography, so I ended up getting this after hours of research and internet eye-shopping (especially since I knew nothing about film or lomo). Diana seemed awesome, but I wasn't ready to invest that much money yet. The $50 fisheye 2 seemed more or less perfect. Since I live in sunny LA, I took many pictures outside in the sun on beautiful days, totally abusing lens flare, lots of sky, lots of sunlight. Also night time and indoors with friends, always with flash. After getting 3 rolls of 36-exposure lomography 400 iso films developed, I got more than 80 decent pictures, which was a huge shock to me! Because I always read reviews about how terrible everyone's pictures ended up being, with half or even third developing to worth anything. That's when I thanked all the research I did on how to really use the camera and how to get the best pictures. You should do your research too!

Two things that suck:
The lens cap sucks. I carry it in a generic case with extra film so no biggie.
When using built-in flash, it creates a shadow on the bottom-right corner of the picture. But I guess that just gives me an excuse to buy other flashes :)  Full Review

Great camera for underwater and land

I have used this camera and housing on dozens of dives up to 130 feet and have never had a problem with flooding or even leaking. The housing allows you to control all of the camera functions underwater, giving you the flexibility to change setting with the changing underwater environment or your desired picture type. One of the best features is the ability to set two separate user-defined modes; this alows you to quickly changes multiple setting with just one dial adjustement. The picture quality is excellent for a camera this small. 

 

This system allows you to set the camera to pre-set modes for the beginner or to individually adjust all the settings for the more advanced photographer. This is obviously not an underwater SLR for professional photographers, but it has more adjustable settings than any other comparable camera I have seen. I was particularly impressed with the low-light picture quality and the ability to take pictures directly into a bright light source. Previous digital cameras I have used performed very poorly in these situations. For underwater use, you have to use a separate strobe to get good pictures with bright colors. The built-in flash is used to trigger the strobe through a fiberoptic cable. The only negative I would point out is that you cannot open the pop-up flash once the camera is in the housing. That means that if you forget to open the pop-up flash before you dive, as is did once, your strobe will not work. 

 

Outside the housing, this camera is small enough to take anywhere. I now use this camera exclusively for above and below water photography. This camera also records decent quality video with sound, above and below water.

Excellent underwater case
Like the camera I bought for use in this case, I had to give this 5 stars.

Other's commented that the zoom lever is flimsy. I didn't find that to be the case at all while using it underwater. It worked well. And while the available features are limited (zoom, start/stop record, take photo and power on/off are the only options), the cost of this case compared to other alternatives from other vendors is substantially less. And those vendors do not offer many more features and most won't allow you to view the LCD screen.

The case is solid. The camera fits very well and has a plate that attaches so it locks into the case. Most importantly it does what its supposed to and keeps the camera dry. The video quality is amazing and I found it quite easy to use the camera in one hand but would use both hands for steadier shots or if I needed to zoom in our out. Taking pictures while filming was also easy. Having the full LCD screen viewable is also great and something most other cases do not provide.

There is some sound recorded. In my videos, it was mostly my breathing, but at times you could hear other sounds. It's not all that useful, but more interesting watching it with no sound at all.

Bottom line - I don't think you can find a case that can do the same for anything close in price. While no features can be added as some of the more expensive cases, there really aren't any that are truly needed to take excellent underwater video and pictures.

This is one of two housings for the Olympus 5060 camera. In my opinion is a very cost-effective couple.
Infact the camera offers both the macro and supermacro focusing position (3 cm....) , a good definition (5 mega pixel) and manual exposure method. The PT020 housing has'nt small dimension, but underwater is easy to manage and offers a good hand position and stability. If you are able to find a good price for the housing and the camera (out of production...) i think that is a very nice choice moreover for the beginners....

We got the floating wrist strap for a trip vacation to the Caribbean. The strap made it easier to snorkel with our underwater-camera. I checked it before starting out and it did float with the weight of our small camera. Loved the yellow color and was comfortable to wear. Would have been 5-star except that the strap is so big and cannot be made small enough for most wrists. Before we went, I sewed some elastic on it to make it smaller and then it fit better. Sewing the elastic was easy. To add to my confidence, I also added a second hook to attach the camera in 2 places, just in case. I recommend a strap like this for snorkeling. Full Review

It's written in clear straightfoward language that beginners can understand, with enough in depth information to satisfy the techies. Most other books on underwater photography focus on film and are somewhat dated- not this book- it's focus is digital photography, with a passing nod to film.

Included in the kit are the neoprene case, 2 straps, and a silicone skin. I love the case, black and tight fitting around the camera, which is what I wanted. There is also a hook to attach it anywhere, although I still haven't used it. I usually just toss the camera into my bag. There are 2 different straps, a "regular" strap, and the float strap. The "regular" strap seems to also be made of neoprene type fabric, but I'm not sure. Unfortunately it isn't adjustable, which would have been a great add-on. But the float strap is adjustable, and works well. It floats as the camera hangs below the strap. It has floated all over my pool for a couple of hours at a time. It's easier than having to swim to the side every time you need to put the camera down for a second. The strap has gray, black, and bright orange stripes, which I suppose was done so you could easily see it. I was surprised, only because it was not shown on the picture of the box or in the description, but I don't mind it at all. I really haven't used the silicone skin yet. I tried it on, and it fits well. It covers the front and sides of the camera, but not the back- just like a cell phone skin. I tried pressing the buttons (power and shutter), and seem to be alright under the skin, but again, I don't use it. I felt like water would get trapped between the skin and the camera if I brought it into the water, which is where my camera is much of the time. I really do like the product because it does what I want it to do, and I use it all the time... I just had/have one problem. Not sure if it's just mine or not. It is a little difficult to take the strap off and switch it with another. Basically you have to push in the two sides at the end of the strap and pull it off (I can't think of an example, but I'm sure we've all had something like this... like a buckle on a shopping cart or high chair but on a much smaller scale.) I guess, in a way, it's a good thing that it is difficult to take off, then I know it just won't fall off. But overall, I am very satisfied.

Better Than I Expected
I bought one of these cameras for a recent trip to Maui. I hoped to see some green sea turtles while snorkeling and wanted to capture the experience on film. I did not have high expectations for a camera costing less than $10, but I figured that any image would be better than no image. As it turned out, we saw lots of sea turtles and the camera far exceeded my expectations. It took some amazing underwater photos. See for yourself. I have posted some of them in the customer images. I don't know what happened with the people who gave this camera a low rating. My photos were excellent. If I'd known how good they were going to turn out, I would have bought more than one. It's true that the colors in the images were originally shifted toward the blue, but that is typically the case for underwater photos unless the camera has a special filter that compensates for it. However, it is easy to fix. I had the photos developed and put on a CD at Costco for less than $5. (I only got the negatives and the CD, no prints). I then transferred the digital images from the CD onto my computer where color correction could be made. I use Photoshop Elements and it has an Auto Levels feature that corrects the color, brightness and contrast with one click of the mouse. The posted images were adjusted using that process. After adjustment, the digital photos that are keepers can be made into prints. I will definitely get another one of these for the next snorkeling trip. BTW, if you look at the customer images, although the user name is similar, FroggyM is a different person. Their images show the blue color shift that mine had before I corrected them.

Excellent case, particularly for the price. I live on the Big Island where the reef is only a 15min drive, thus get to use my gear every few weeks. I bought the G11 as an everyday carry camera and a dive camera.

I've had this case for about four months. I've gone river rafting, hot springing, waterfall swimming, and diving down to 75' with it. The unit worked very well. Two comments: when you turn the dials on top, the camera dial rotates in the opposite direction; pushing the button half way to clear a pic that's on hold is problematic (easily solved by having the pic hold for 2 seconds). Highly recommended.
